The works on this page were created while traveling (see www.berrytrip.us).    The concerns I am addressing are the same as in my oil paintings.  Recently I have become very interested in the idea of creating tension between foreground and background.  By painting the "background" with as much or more detail as the "foreground" the tension between the two alternately gives the illusion of depth and flattens the picture plane.

The painting of Senor Elegante is a tribute to the main attraction at Patagonia State Park in Southern Arizona near Nogales, AZ.  While volunteering there, I became very interested in birding and Senor Elegante.
